Nellie Wicks is brought to Chicago at age 11, after her loving grandmother in Rochester New York suddenly dies. One night in March 1890, Nellie’s mother Addie Wicks goes into labor, and frightened Nellie rushes across the street seeking help at the newly-opened Hull House. That night, a new friendship is born between desperate Nellie and the young Jane Addams. Will the new friendship help Nellie survive her abusive family?
